Iran military spokesman threatens strikes on US assets worldwide if America attacks again
Iran’s military spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia has threatened strikes on US assets and installations spread around the world if the United States resumes attacks on Iran.
In a speech on Iranian state television on Friday, Brigadier General Akraminia said: “Our enemy has many bases outside the Southwest Asia region as well, and their equipment and forces are deployed at those bases. If an attack targeting Iran happens again, then without considering geographical limitations, that is, worldwide, the Iranian armed forces will strike all material and immaterial targets of the US enemy.”
Mediators have stepped up efforts to end the conflict amid fears that war between Iran and the United States could resume after the US midterm elections.
Trump indicated on Tuesday that the possibility of military operations resuming after the election cannot be completely ruled out.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told reporters during a visit to Russia on Thursday: “In the field of diplomacy we have given the Americans seven conditions. Until they fulfil these seven conditions of ours, we will not open the Strait of Hormuz, nor will we sit for any talks.”
Rezaei said the seven conditions include lifting sanctions imposed on the United States’ side, releasing frozen Iranian assets and paying war compensation, among other matters.
On 28 February, the United States and Israel began military operations in Iran. In response, Iran began counter-attacks on Israel and on Gulf countries where US military bases are located. At the same time, conflict also spread in Lebanon between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel.
Recently the conflict has extended to Yemen, from where Iran-aligned Houthis have attacked Saudi Arabia’s energy installations, airports and other targets.
