Maulana Abdur Rab has been elected the new ameer of the Pirojpur district branch of Jamaat-e-Islami. He was elected district ameer for the 2027-2028 session in a secret ballot of the organisation's members (rukn). He had previously served as the district Jamaat's naib-e-ameer.

On Wednesday (November 4), the names of ameers for 77 district and metropolitan branches of Jamaat-e-Islami for the 2027-2028 session were announced. Jamaat ameer and opposition leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the names of the elected ameers at a meeting of the central executive council at the party's central office in Moghbazar in the capital.

A press release sent by the party said the ameers were elected through a secret ballot of the rukn members.

Leaders and activists said that when Principal Tafazzal Hossain Farid, who had served as Pirojpur district ameer for a long 35 years, stepped aside due to physical illness, Maulana Abdur Rab took over as acting ameer. With his election as the new ameer, he will lead the Pirojpur district Jamaat for the next two years.

Party sources said Principal Tafazzal Hossain Farid had served as Pirojpur district Jamaat ameer since 1991. When he recently expressed his inability to continue due to physical illness, naib-e-ameer Maulana Abdur Rab was given the responsibility of acting ameer in line with the party constitution.

On October 9, a district rukn conference was held at the Town School field in Pirojpur town to elect the leadership for the 2027-2028 session. At the conference, conducted by Jamaat central assistant secretary general Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, 672 male and female rukn members of the district cast secret ballots. Maulana Abdur Rab was declared district ameer centrally on the basis of the final vote count.

According to party and personal information, Maulana Abdur Rab completed his higher education at Chharchhina Darussunnat Kamil Madrasa. After his education, he took oath as a rukn of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 1989.

In 1992 he served as municipal ameer. He later served as secretary of the district Jamaat from 2011 and as naib-e-ameer from 2024.
