Missile Attack on Bahrain-Bound Tanker in Arabian Gulf Kills One Sailor

Staff Reporter

One sailor has been killed in a missile attack on an oil-products tanker in the Arabian Gulf. The ship's manager said the attack took place last Thursday.

The tanker, named MT Velos, was heading towards Bahrain. Velos Tankers said a missile was fired at the tanker at that time.

In a statement, the company said it was announcing the death of one sailor with deep sorrow. The sailor was seriously injured after the attack; he was first missing and was later rescued in an injured condition.

Apart from the sailor who died, no other crew member of the tanker was injured. The crew brought under control the fire that broke out on the ship as a result of the missile attack.

The company also said there was no environmental damage caused by the attack.

After the attack, the tanker anchored at Bahrain's Khalifa bin Salman Port.

Who carried out the attack will now be investigated. The extent of damage to the ship's outer hull will also be assessed.

Iran has been regularly attacking ships passing through the Arabian and Persian Gulfs in recent times. However, it is not confirmed whether Iranian forces fired the missile at this Bahrain-bound ship.
