BSF shoots and takes away an injured Bangladeshi youth at Jibannagar border

A Bangladeshi youth, Monirul Islam, was injured by firing from India's Border Security Force at the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga. The BSF later detained him and took him inside India.
The incident happened around 7pm on Friday, 6 November, in the border area of Hariharnagar village in Jibannagar upazila. The injured Monirul Islam, aged 35, is the son of Liakat Islam of Hariharnagar village.
It is not yet confirmed whether he is alive or has died.
Local people said Monirul Islam and six others went near the barbed-wire fence at the border on Friday evening for gold smuggling. On seeing them, BSF members fired bullets and rubber bullets. Monirul was shot in the leg and hit by rubber bullets in several places on his back.
At one point he collapsed to the ground, injured. The others with him jumped into the water of a nearby canal and fled. BSF members then detained the injured Monirul and took him inside India.
Assistant Director Munshi Imdadur Rahman of Maheshpur-58 BGB said they were trying to contact the BSF about the matter.
The sound of firing at the border and the BSF taking away a Bangladeshi youth have caused concern and fear among local people.
