Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party and opposition chief whip in the National Parliament, has claimed there is no chance for the Awami League to return to politics in December.

He made the remarks on Friday night while answering journalists' questions at an exchange meeting held at Swapnachhaya Community Centre in Joypurhat town.

Nahid Islam said the government is giving the Awami League an opportunity to conduct political activities. He said that if the government had not compromised on the trial of cases over the past eight months, they would be in the field against the Awami League in the coming December, and the people would also be in the field.

Joypurhat district NCP organised the meeting to review the organisational progress of the National Citizen Party and to formulate local-election-centred plans. District committee convener Nurul Islam Ranju chaired the meeting.

The main speaker at the meeting was NCP senior joint member secretary Sarjis Alam. The party's organising secretary Imran Emon and assistant organising secretary Sakib Mahadi were special guests. District NCP member secretary Ismail Hossain Hadi and leaders of the party at various levels were also present.

At the meeting, central leaders reviewed the progress of organisational activities with the presidents and general secretaries of various units from four districts. Party preparation ahead of the upcoming local government elections, strengthening organisational activities and future action plans were also discussed.
