Bangladesh Will Face Disaster If Jamaat Is Not Suppressed, Nurul Haq Nur Tells Bijoy Nagar Rally
Gono Odhikar Parishad president and Expatriates' Welfare State Minister Nurul Haq Nur has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami wants to establish a new fascism by creating religious extremism. He said Bangladesh will face disaster in the future if Jamaat is not suppressed.
He made the remarks on Friday afternoon at a rally organised in the capital's Bijoy Nagar on the occasion of the fifth founding anniversary of Gono Odhikar Parishad.
Leaders and workers from Dhaka and various surrounding districts joined the rally in processions. They chanted various slogans against Jamaat-e-Islami at the time.
Nur alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami, relying on young people, wants to turn the country into an extremist state using a BJP-like method.
He advised the National Citizen Party to get down from Jamaat's lap and practise progressive politics.
He also said the government must be sincere about maintaining national unity in the post-July period.
Nur promised that even while in government, he will not back down in realising workers' rights.
He also said Gono Odhikar Parishad will take part alone in the upcoming local government elections.
Senior vice-president Faruk Hasan and other central leaders of Gono Odhikar Parishad also addressed the rally.
