Venezuelan man arrested near White House with firearms over alleged Trump assassination threat

A Venezuelan man was arrested by the Secret Service near the White House in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said he was found inside a stolen vehicle carrying multiple firearms and had reportedly threatened to kill President Donald Trump.

DHS said Secret Service officers approached the suspect on Thursday evening after spotting him acting suspicious in his car while it was parked on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C.

According to DHS, the suspect told officers that he heard voices in his head telling him to come to the nation's capital and kill Trump.

During the investigation, officers discovered three firearms, including an AR-15-style rifle and two handguns, along with dozens of rounds of ammunition.

DHS described the suspect as an illegal immigrant from Venezuela.
