Tea Vendor Beaten to Death Over Dispute About a Small Strip of Road
A man named Md. Naim Khan (60) has died after being attacked by his opponents over a dispute about road space in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. Blows from sticks left him with serious injuries to his head and various parts of his body.
The incident took place at around 1:15 pm on Saturday (November 7) in the Shimlai Uttarpara area of Siddhirganj. He was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 3 pm.
The deceased, Naim Khan, was the son of the late Moin Khan of Shimlai Uttarpara in Siddhirganj. He worked as a tea vendor.
Imran, the husband of the victim's daughter, said that neighbours Hossain, Iqbal and Maya, along with three to four others, attacked Naim Khan on the road in front of his house at midday. They beat him indiscriminately with sticks, he said.
Imran said the beating left Naim with serious injuries to his head and various parts of his body, and that at one point he collapsed on the ground, covered in blood.
After hearing the news, relatives rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors there declared him dead after examination.
Imran added that there had been a long-standing dispute with the accused over road space. He said they had never imagined that a man would be beaten to death over such a small strip of road.
He demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing.
Inspector Habibur Rahman, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed Naim Khan's death, citing the doctors.
He said the body had been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy, and that the matter had been reported to the police station concerned.
