An easybike driver was injured in Fatullah, Narayanganj, after two chunks of concrete fell from the under-construction Panchabati-Muktarpur flyover onto his moving vehicle.

The accident took place on Saturday afternoon below the flyover's pillar number 72 in the Kashipur area. The easybike was also damaged.

The injured easybike driver was rescued and taken to hospital. His name and identity were not immediately known.

On receiving the news, officials connected with the project inspected the site.

After the incident, fear spread among local people about the safety of travelling under the flyover.

Eyewitnesses said two large chunks of concrete fell from the upper part of pillar number 72 onto the easybike. The driver was injured and the vehicle was damaged.

Several local masons expressed concern that the concrete had separated from the steel rods inside the pillar's casting and fallen off. This kind of problem is called "concrete spalling".

In their view, along with this pillar, other parts of the flyover also need to be checked.

However, Wahiduzzaman, the project director of the Panchabati-Muktarpur flyover construction project, disagreed.

"This is not a case of spalling. A concrete block left behind by workers during construction fell on the easybike and caused the accident. There is no problem anywhere else on the flyover. We hope the Prime Minister will inaugurate the flyover towards the end of December," he said.
