Younger brother dies after elder brother strikes him with a dao over land dispute in Kushtia's Daulatpur

Ataul Malitha (56) has died after his elder brother struck him with a dao (a traditional machete) over a dispute about the boundary of their land in Daulatpur, Kushtia. He died this Saturday evening while undergoing treatment at Kushtia Medical College Hospital.
The deceased, Ataul Malitha, was the son of the late Rahatullah Malitha of Dangmorka Madhyapara village in Adabaria union of the upazila.
Police and local sources said Ataul Malitha and his elder brother Tofazzal Malitha had been locked in a long-running dispute over the land of their homestead. At around 2pm today, while fixing the boundary and the ridge of the land behind the house, their argument turned into a scuffle.
At that point Tofazzal struck Ataul on the head with a dao. He was seriously injured in the attack.
Local people and relatives then rescued him and took him to the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex. After primary treatment there, he was sent to Kushtia Medical College Hospital for better treatment. He died there this evening while under treatment.
Adabaria Union Parishad chairman Abdul Baki said, 'I heard about the fight between the two brothers over land at noon. As I was outside the area, I could not confirm the death.'
Daulatpur police station's officer-in-charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman said the younger brother was injured when his elder brother struck him with a dao over a dispute about the land boundary and ridge, and he later died in hospital while under treatment. Police are working to bring the accused under the law, he said.
