Staff Reporter

An attack, vandalism and fighting broke out inside New Guinea Properties in the ECB Chattar area of Dakshin Manikdi, under Cantonment Police Station in the capital, following a land dispute. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Cantonment Police Station arrested a total of 14 people, including 10 men and four women, in connection with the incident.

The incident took place at around 4:10 pm on Saturday (November 7). According to Cantonment Police Station sources, around 100 to 150 people entered New Guinea Properties carrying locally made weapons and became involved in vandalism and fighting.

After receiving the news, Cantonment police quickly reached the scene, brought the situation under control and arrested 14 people from the spot. Md Akhtar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of the DMP Media and Public Relations Division, confirmed the incident.

Three of the arrested people were seriously injured in the mutual fighting. Police rescued them and took them to Kurmitola General Hospital, where the duty doctor gave them primary treatment and referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Local sources said the incident began over a financial dispute related to buying and selling land. Police said the process of taking legal action in this incident is under way.

Notably, on September 26 at around 10:30 pm, a similar attack, vandalism and looting took place at the same New Guinea Properties. At that time, a group of 100 to 150 people attacked the housing project carrying locally made weapons and firearms.

That day, the attackers vandalised and looted 'Brownfish', the rented studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir. After the attack, a case was filed on behalf of New Guinea Properties naming retired Major General Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury and 13 others, along with 150 to 200 unidentified people as accused.

Later, 11 people were arrested in that case. Eight of them have been released on bail. Investigation sources said the earlier attack was primarily centred on a dispute over land ownership and an access road.

The process of taking legal action against the 14 people arrested in today's incident is under way. Police said the investigation and legal process into the incident are proceeding.
