Staff Reporter

Popular television actress Samira Khan Mahi has been crowned Miss Universe Bangladesh 2026. She was announced the winner at a grand ceremony at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.

There was tense excitement on stage at the moment the winner’s name was announced. As soon as her name was called, an emotional Mahi placed her hand on her chest. Then last year’s Miss Universe Bangladesh winner, Tanzia Zaman Mithila, placed the crown on her head. The two then embraced, and the whole auditorium erupted in applause as they walked the stage together.

At the ceremony, Mahi wore a shimmering champagne-gold mermaid gown. The off-shoulder outfit was heavily embellished with stones. Outgoing winner Tanzia Zaman Mithila wore a light blue and silver gown whose shoulder design resembled wings. Popular actress Toma Mirza was also present on stage when the winner was announced.

Mustafa Rafiqul Islam Duke, managing director of Flora Telecom Limited and national director of Miss Universe Bangladesh, attended the event. Also present were film actress Dighi, director Mehdi Hasan Hridoy and several models and choreographers.

The organisers said Samira Khan Mahi will represent Bangladesh at the 75th Miss Universe International pageant, to be held in Puerto Rico on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean from November 11.

Samira Khan Mahi is a familiar face to television audiences. Alongside her acting, her effortless presence and confidence have made her popular with viewers. Now she has won the top national honour in the beauty pageant.

In her immediate reaction, Mahi said her parents told her to go and conquer the world. She asked everyone for their prayers so that she can return having conquered the world and brightened Bangladesh’s name. “If I win, Bangladesh wins,” she said.

In 2025, Tanzia Zaman Mithila represented Bangladesh at the 74th Miss Universe pageant, competing against contestants from 122 countries to reach the top 30. That was Bangladesh’s first-ever placement on the Miss Universe stage. She also won the top spot in the People’s Choice category, bringing honour to the country.

After Tanzia Zaman Mithila, Samira Khan Mahi will now represent Bangladesh on the Miss Universe world stage. Audiences at home are now waiting to see her performance on the international stage.

With the Miss Universe Bangladesh crown, Mahi now faces the challenge of the world stage. At the 75th edition beginning in Puerto Rico on November 11, she will compete against contestants from many countries around the world.
