Temperature falls to 16.5 degrees in Panchagarh as winter chill grows
Temperatures have fallen again in Panchagarh, the northern district, and the feeling of winter is gradually growing. The cold is felt most from the evening through the morning, because of chilly winds and fog.
According to the weather office, temperatures have dropped somewhat compared with the past few days. Over the past week, the district's minimum temperature has fluctuated between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius.
In that trend, the lowest temperature recorded in Tetulia on Sunday (8 November), at both 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., was 16.5 degrees Celsius.
Local sources said that although sunshine makes the daytime somewhat warm, the cold grows as the night deepens. In the early morning the surroundings are sometimes covered in light fog and sometimes in dense fog.
From dawn until 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, fog was somewhat less than in previous days, but the chill was unmistakable in the cold wind blowing from the north-west.
Local residents said the temperature starts falling from the evening and the cold becomes sharper as the night advances. As a result, blankets are needed at night and warm clothes are needed to go outside in the morning.
Mehedi Hasan and Shahidul Islam of the Barrister Bazar area of Panchagarh said the wintry mood has been growing in the district for several days. Some days bring dense fog, other days light fog. Although the days are warm, the nights and mornings feel quite cold. The cold grows gradually from the evening, making it hard to sleep at night without a blanket, and hard to step outside in the morning without warm clothes.
Rickshaw pullers and motorcyclists are suffering in the cold night and early-morning air. A rickshaw puller named Moinuddin and a motorcyclist named Fazlul said the cold wind makes driving at night and in the morning very difficult, so they have to wear jackets and other warm clothing when they go out to work.
Jitendranath Roy, acting officer of the Tetulia weather observation centre, said temperatures have been fluctuating over the past few days. The lowest temperature recorded in Tetulia at 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Sunday was 16.5 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 100 percent. Earlier, on Saturday (7 November) afternoon, the district's highest temperature was recorded at 31.6 degrees Celsius.
He added that day and night temperatures may fall gradually in the coming days, which could make the feeling of winter in Panchagarh stronger still.
