Shyama Puja today, Goddess Kali worshipped at temples across the country

Shree Shree Shyama Puja, the second-largest religious festival of the Sanatan (Hindu) community, is being observed across the country today, Sunday. Worship of Goddess Kali began at temples in the morning.
Shyama Puja, also known as Kali Puja, is usually held on the new moon night of the month of Kartik. Devotees observe the festival every year around this tithi.
According to Hindu mythology, the goddess Kali is a power of Durga herself. The name Kali is said to come from the Sanskrit word 'kal', meaning time.
Kali Puja is the worship of power. Through this worship, devotees pray for the victory of good over all the evil forces of the world.
According to popular belief, Kali is the presiding deity of the cremation ground. For that reason, Shmashan Kali Puja is held with great fanfare at cremation grounds in different regions.
Shyama Puja will be held today at the Dhakeshwari National Temple, the Ramna Kali Temple and the Ramakrishna Mission and Math in the capital. Preparations have been made at these temples for the gathering of devotees.
Puja will also be held today at the Siddheshwari Kali Temple, the Shree Shree Bardeshwari Kalimata Temple in Sabujbagh, and the Radhagobinda Jiu Thakur Temple in old Dhaka.
