Bashundhara Shuvosangho has formed a human chain in Narayanganj to raise public awareness about dengue.

The programme was held on Saturday morning (7 November) in the Chashara area of the city, organised by the organisation’s Narayanganj district branch.

Alongside personal awareness for dengue prevention, the programme stressed keeping homes, courtyards and the surrounding environment clean.

Leaders and activists of the organisation raised various awareness messages about dengue prevention at the human chain. A banner displayed there said everyone has a responsibility in preventing dengue, and called for building a dengue-free Bangladesh by raising awareness.

The programme emphasised keeping homes and the surrounding environment clean to stop the spread of dengue. Everyone was advised to make sure water does not stagnate anywhere.

In particular, people were urged to regularly clean flower tubs, discarded containers, old tyres, water vessels and water collected in various places. They were also made aware of keeping unnecessary containers turned upside down and keeping drains clean.

People were also advised to use mosquito nets even during the day to protect themselves from mosquito bites. They were urged to use approved creams or lotions to kill mosquitoes and to take necessary measures against mosquitoes inside and outside the home.

Advocate Kazi Mamun, general secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Narayanganj district, said personal awareness alone is not enough to prevent dengue; families, neighbours and social organisations must all work together.

He said that alongside keeping one’s own home and surroundings clean to stop mosquito breeding, others must also be made aware. He added that taking precautionary measures in advance is essential to prevent dengue.

Also present at the time were Pradip Kumar Das, vice-president of the Narayanganj district committee, joint general secretary Dwip Bappy, organising secretary Mehedi Monjur Bakul, cultural secretary SM Russell, literature and publication secretary poet Al Monir, and advisers Sharif Suman and Mobashwir Shrabon.
