Masud Uddin seeks treatment at CMH; hearing deferred to Tuesday
Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, an accused in a crimes against humanity case, has applied to be transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment. The tribunal, however, has deferred the hearing to Tuesday (10 November) following an application by his lawyer.
On Sunday (8 November), a three-member judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by its chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, fixed the date.
The other members of the panel are Judge Md Manjurul Bachid and Judge Noor Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
Masud Uddin is under arrest in a case over crimes against humanity committed in Feni during the July mass uprising of 2024. The case was second on the tribunal’s cause list for the day.
Lawyer Liton Ahmed sought time on behalf of Masud Uddin. He told the tribunal that they had applied for Masud Uddin Chowdhury to be transferred to the CMH, that the hearing was scheduled for Sunday, but that one of their lawyers is in hospital, so they want the hearing to be held later and need time until 10 November.
As the prosecution raised no objection, the tribunal fixed 10 November for the hearing on the matter.
Besides Masud Uddin, Major (retd) Mozaffar Hossain is also under arrest and in jail in this case. The same court has directed that the investigation report against the two be submitted by 23 November.
The prosecution alleges that Mozaffar kept regular contact with Masud Uddin during the killings in Feni in the July uprising, and the investigation has found evidence of both men’s involvement in the incident.
Earlier, on 21 July, the prosecution sought a production warrant to show Mozaffar Hossain, an accused in the case over the killing of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, arrested in this case.
On the night of 23 March this year, the Detective Branch of police arrested Masud Uddin Chowdhury from his home in the Baridhara DOHS area of the capital. He is known as one of the key players of the one-eleven episode.
