Defamation case filed against actress Tanjin Tisha, PBI ordered to investigate

A defamation case has been filed against actress Tanjin Nahar Tisha. Fashion designer Sanaya Anam Wafifkah Chowdhury filed the case on Sunday in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin. The court recorded the complainant's statement and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate. Shubhra Sinha Roy, the lawyer for the complainant, confirmed the matter.

According to the case statement, the complainant had earlier filed a case against Tanjin Tisha in the CMM court on charges of fraud and breach of trust. She also filed another case in the executive magistrate's court under sections 107 and 117(c) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, alleging threats and intimidation.

The statement says that after those cases were filed, the accused, out of vengeance, began spreading various objectionable photos and false information about the complainant from her verified Facebook page from October 27. It is also alleged that she kept presenting various information about the complainant incorrectly to the country's media.

The statement further says that on November 7, the accused Tanjin Tisha called the complainant on Messenger and threatened to make her go viral. In that call, she said, 'If you want to become famous, tell me, I will upload your photos.'

The complaint says that on October 27, Tisha spread various objectionable photos and false information about the complainant from her page and uploaded the complainant's photos on Facebook. There, the accused claimed that the complainant was kissing a woman. The statement also mentions that she published photos of two minor children there.

After learning about the matter, the complainant sent a legal notice to the accused through her lawyer. Even after the notice was sent, Tisha did not remove those photos and continued to threaten her with abusive remarks, defamation and the publication of more photos, the complaint alleges. The complainant therefore filed the defamation case against her out of compulsion.

After the case was filed, the court recorded the complainant's statement and assigned the investigation to the PBI. The court will decide the next steps in the case after receiving the investigation report. No statement from the accused side has been received so far on this matter.

Tanjin Tisha is one of the country's popular actresses. Recently, various discussions were going on on social media about her dispute with the complainant. With the defamation case now filed, the matter has moved into the court's arena.
