The election for the new executive committee of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO), the apex body of the country's private television channel owners, has been completed for the 2026-2028 term. Anjan Chowdhury, managing director of Maasranga Television, has been re-elected president of the organisation, while Abdus Salam, chairman and CEO of Ekushey Television (ETV), has been elected secretary general.

The two will lead the organisation of private television channel owners for the next two years. Those involved expect the organisation's work for the development of the country's television and broadcasting industry to gain fresh momentum under the new leadership.

Voting for the new committee took place on Sunday (8 November) at the Hotel Sheraton in Banani in the capital, after ATCO's tenth annual general meeting (AGM). Owners and representatives of various private television channels took part.

Members cast their votes to decide the organisation's leadership for the next two years. After the voting and counting, the election commission formally announced the final results.

The results confirmed Anjan Chowdhury's re-election as president and Abdus Salam's election as secretary general.

Kazi Zahedul Hasan has been elected vice-president of the committee, and Zahiruddin Mahmud Mamun has been elected treasurer.

The directors elected to the committee are Md. Hasan, Mostafa Kamal, Alhaj Mohammad Mosaddek Ali, Md. Jasim Uddin, Md. Liakat Ali Khan Mukul, Tipu Alam Milan, Navidul Haque, Shamim Islam and Syed Samadul Haque.

With the new committee taking charge, ATCO's organisational work is expected to gather new pace. There is hope that the organisation will play a stronger role in protecting the interests of the country's private television channels, tackling the existing challenges of the broadcasting industry, and strengthening media freedom and professional capacity.

Newly elected president Anjan Chowdhury and secretary general Abdus Salam have expressed their resolve to work together to make the country's media and television industry stronger, richer and more dynamic.

Those involved hope that under their leadership ATCO will play an effective role over the next two years in developing the broadcasting sector and safeguarding the interests of its member organisations.
