Professor Dr. M R Kabir, vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University (DIU), has been elected a full member of the Administrative Board of the International Association of Universities (IAU). He will serve in the role as the representative of the Asia and Pacific region for the 2026-2030 term.

The election was announced at the IAU's 17th General Conference, held from 3 to 6 November 2026 at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. The theme of the conference was 'The Value of Universities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence'.

Speaking about the election, Professor Dr. M R Kabir said being elected to the Administrative Board of the international association of universities was a matter of great honour and responsibility for him. He said the role would give him an opportunity to present the achievements, potential and experience of Bangladesh's higher education system on the international stage.

He added that he would also have the chance to work on expanding knowledge exchange, research and international cooperation among universities in the Asia and Pacific region. He said that collective initiative was especially important in this age of artificial intelligence for building quality higher education and a future-ready education system.

Founded in 1950 under the auspices of UNESCO, the International Association of Universities is an important international organisation of higher education institutions around the world. It works to improve the quality of higher education, expand international cooperation, uphold academic values and help universities meet contemporary challenges.

Nearly 600 member institutions from more than 120 countries are associated with the organisation. The IAU has long played an important role in shaping higher education policy, exchanging knowledge and experience among university leaders, and strengthening global academic cooperation.

Professor Dr. M R Kabir's election as the representative of the Asia and Pacific region is a significant achievement for Bangladesh's higher education sector, as well as for Daffodil International University's engagement on the international stage.

It will further strengthen Bangladesh's opportunity to be represented in international higher education policymaking, academic dialogue and the expansion of global cooperation.

The achievement is expected to carry forward the university's commitment to increasing its international partnerships, ensuring quality education and playing an active role in global higher education.

The university community has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M R Kabir.
