Fire Set at July Memorial in Habiganj, Tension Rises; Demand for Swift Arrests

Staff Reporter

Tension has flared in Habiganj after miscreants set fire to a July memorial. The memorial was set on fire at around 2 a.m. on Saturday (November 7), according to reports.

After news of the fire spread, tension grew among the July fighter students.

Md. Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Habiganj Sadar police station, declined to speak on camera.

He said, however, that it is not yet possible to say who set the fire. He added that questioning those who filmed footage of the fire would reveal the matter.

Md. Rasel Mia, joint convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Habiganj, said whoever committed the act must be arrested quickly and brought under the law.

Police have so far been unable to say who was behind setting the fire. Police said those who filmed the footage will be questioned to identify the culprits.
