Chynna Phillips considered ending her marriage to Billy Baldwin — then his efforts changed everything

Wilson Phillips singer Chynna Phillips has admitted she once considered ending her marriage to actor Billy Baldwin. But her husband's willingness to work on their decades-long marriage changed everything.
At the Chiller Theatre Expo in New Jersey, Phillips opened up in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital about the challenges they have faced. She said Billy and she had been through some really treacherous times in their marriage, and there were times when she was going to throw in the towel and call a lawyer.
"If we're being completely transparent here, there were times where I was just thinking to myself, I can't do this anymore," she said.
Despite reaching that breaking point, Phillips said her husband's willingness to work on the relationship gave her hope that things could improve. When she saw that he was actually willing to work on the relationship in a very intentional way, she said, the two of them were able to make some changes that were permanent.
Phillips explained that the couple began making lasting changes rather than falling back into the same patterns after a brief period of improvement. "We have been working very, very hard," she said.
Phillips and Baldwin tied the knot in September 1995 and share three adult children, Jameson, Vance and Brooke.
Their marriage has made headlines in recent years as the couple has spoken publicly about their decision to live separately at different points in their relationship. In October, Phillips confirmed that she and Baldwin had moved into separate houses while continuing to work through their marital challenges.
"Literally our marriage was going down like the Titanic, and Billy moved 50 yards away from me in the guest house and so far, so good," Phillips said in an Instagram video. "It's kind of working. I'm not really sure what's going to come of it but hey, I'm not fighting it."
The couple previously lived apart in 2024, with Phillips staying in Santa Barbara and Baldwin living in Beverly Hills. They later reunited under one roof before deciding to live separately again.
Now, Phillips and Baldwin are preparing to give fans a closer look at their relationship through a new YouTube series, "Holding On: Billy and Chynna," scheduled to debut Nov. 17. During her interview with Fox News Digital, Phillips encouraged viewers to check out the project, which she said offers an unfiltered look at the realities of marriage. "It really depicts marriage, the ups, the downs, it's very raw, it's very real, it is very funny, and it's super engaging in my opinion," she said.
In a teaser shared on Instagram, Baldwin and Phillips were seen discussing some of the tensions in their relationship. "You can't admit when you're wrong. That's just it," Baldwin told his wife in the preview. "You can't either!" Phillips responded. In another clip, Baldwin said Phillips had told him she wanted to spend her life with him, but wanted to spend it "adjacent."
While Phillips has been candid about the challenges in her marriage, family remains an important part of her life. She also reflected on her evolving relationship with her sisters, Mackenzie and Bijou Phillips. "It's interesting because we didn't grow up together," Phillips said. "Bijou and Mackenzie spent a lot more time together than I did with them. I was basically raised as an only child, but as I matured and grew older, I reached out more to them, and we all started spending more time together and now we're inseparable."
Phillips, whose father was the late musician John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, said the sisters have developed a strong bond despite their different childhood experiences. "We spend a whole lot of time together, and we trust each other implicitly," she said. "Of course, we've had our ups and our downs just like any siblings. But we really love one another and I think that we share, since we share the same father, there's just a very strong connection between us."
Faith has also played a significant role in Phillips' life, although she said she doesn't frequently discuss her beliefs with her sisters. "I don't really talk about my faith too much with my sisters, but they know that I love the Lord," she said. "So I just kind of pray for them, and I know that they're in the Jesus waiting room."
These days, Phillips said she enjoys a quieter lifestyle in Santa Barbara, where she spends time cooking, taking walks and relaxing at home. With her three children now grown, she also finds joy in caring for her two dogs, Hula and Hoops. "I just love being at home and cooking. And I love taking long naps and walks and hanging out with Billy," she said.
