A woman named Moyna Begum, 55, has died after being attacked by rivals in a dispute over land in Harirampur, Manikganj. Police have arrested one person in connection with the incident.

The tragic incident took place on Sunday afternoon, 8 November, in Kokorhati village of the upazila. The deceased, Moyna Begum, was the wife of Akkas Ali of Kokorhati village.

It is learnt that Moyna Begum's family had a long-running dispute with the family of neighbour Ayub Ali over two decimals of land. On Sunday afternoon, an argument broke out between the two sides over the matter.

At one point, the argument turned into a scuffle. It is alleged that Ayub Ali's son Chanchal, his wife Halima Begum and Chanchal's wife Jahanara Begum attacked Moyna Begum during the altercation, leaving her seriously injured.

Her family members rushed her to the Harirampur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.

JOM Toufiq Azam, officer-in-charge of Harirampur police station, said the attack had taken place over the land dispute. He said one person named Chanchal had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to the morgue of Manikganj Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The officer-in-charge said necessary legal action in the matter is under process.
