The workshop was inaugurated on Monday (26 October) at 9am in the IQAC conference room at the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building. Its aims are to strengthen teaching and research skills, introduce world-class teaching methods and support academic career development, the organisers said.
JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Yearul Kabir chaired the inaugural session. Khulna Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Asaduzzaman Sarkar attended as chief guest and trainer. Special guests included JUST Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan, Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Faruk Hasan and Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr Md Hamadur Rahman.
In his chair's address, Vice-Chancellor Yearul Kabir said there is no alternative to regular training for teachers to ensure quality education at the university. Describing the move from student to teacher as a major transition, he said junior teachers must act responsibly in effective classroom teaching, conducting research and upholding academic ethics during this period, and become role models for students through honesty, transparency and punctuality.
Chief guest Asaduzzaman Sarkar said universities must build an international-standard environment for education and research to raise Bangladesh's education system to a global level. Referring to the goal of reaching a one-trillion-dollar GDP, he said there is no alternative to transforming the education system and ensuring quality research, and described teaching as a great responsibility and passion.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan said teachers have no alternative to sincerity in presenting themselves as ideals to students; the administration's role is only to ensure facilities, and JUST must be built into one of the country's leading higher education institutions through everyone's combined effort.
