The Titas Gas authorities have disconnected the supply of the Denmark Fashion washing factory in Tongi, Gazipur, during a drive against illegal gas use. The factory was also fined Tk 1 lakh.

The drive was carried out on Monday afternoon (26 October) in the Himardighi area under Tongi East police station in the city. The joint drive by the district administration and Titas Gas was led by Syeda Tamanna Horaira, senior assistant commissioner at the deputy commissioner's office.

Sources linked to the drive said information had been received that the washing factory in Himardighi was using fuel through an illegal gas connection. The drive was carried out on that basis. The illegal connection of Denmark Fashion washing factory was then disconnected and the fine was imposed.

Titas Gas officials said illegal connections deprive the government of its set revenue. They said the fair distribution and supply of gas can also be disrupted. Regular drives are being carried out to stop such irregularities, they said.

Mezba-ur-Rahman, manager of Titas Gas's Tongi zone, and other concerned officials took part in the drive.
