The Jatiyatabadi Jubadal, the BNP's associate youth organisation, marks its 48th founding anniversary today, October 27. On this day in 1978, BNP founder and then president Ziaur Rahman founded the organisation.

The organisation was launched with the aim of turning youth power into a workforce through production-oriented politics, in pursuit of Bangladeshi nationalism, democracy, social justice and economic emancipation.

To mark the anniversary, Jubadal will hold programmes across the country on October 27 and 28. The programmes were announced at a press conference at the central office in Nayapaltan on October 13.

Under the programme, on the first day, October 27, at 11am, tributes and prayers will be offered at the graves in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital of BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Leaders and activists of the central Jubadal and of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South will take part.

On the same day at 12 noon, a blood donation programme and a free medical camp, organised by the Jubadal central executive committee, will begin on the ground floor of the central office in Nayapaltan.

In addition, socially responsible programmes have been taken up at district and metropolitan level across the country, including discussion meetings, rallies, assemblies, voluntary blood donation, free medical camps, tree planting, cleanliness drives, releasing fish fry, and distributing food items among the destitute.

According to the organisation, Jubadal's founding convener was Abul Kashem. He later became the organisation's president, and Saifur Rahman was its first general secretary.

The organisation was subsequently led, in succession, by Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Barkatullah Bulu, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Saiful Alam Nirab and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku. Its current president is Abdul Monaem Munna and its general secretary is Member of Parliament Nurul Islam Nayan.
