Information Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman on Pirojpur Burial Obstruction: Desecration of a Dead Body Is Unacceptable

Every person has the right to dignity after death, and disrespectful treatment of a dead body is in no way acceptable, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has said.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (27 October) at a press briefing on the progress of various government activities, held in the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID), in response to a question about the obstruction at midnight in Pirojpur to the burial of a freedom fighter.
Zahed Ur Rahman said those who behave in such a way will ultimately be condemned in society and will not find support for their actions either.
He said that even those who supported various trials and incidents in the past did not like such treatment of a dead body. Noting that after a person dies, their judgment rests with the Creator, he said there is no acceptability for disrespectful behaviour towards a dead body.
Referring to Sheikh Hasina, the adviser said she held on to power without the mandate of the people of Bangladesh and is currently staying outside the country. He said the government's position on statements and reactions concerning her is clear and remains unchanged.
Zahed Ur Rahman also spoke at the briefing about a police officer's recent remarks concerning crossfire and journalists. He said the officer later explained his remarks in a statement from Police Headquarters and also clarified the generalised remarks made about journalists.
The adviser said that if a statement made from a responsible position is misrepresented or creates misunderstanding, it is important to explain it. He said the officer concerned clarified in the subsequent statement what he meant, so that explanation should also be taken into account before reaching a conclusion on the matter.
