At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Mominul Haque and Sadman Islam had settled in after Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan Tamim early in the first Test against the West Indies. The pair had raised hopes of a substantial partnership.

Bangladesh lost Tamim with the team score on 9. Mominul and Sadman then resisted in a second-wicket stand worth 59 runs.

The stand ended when Mominul was dismissed for 28. He came down the wicket to Jomel Warrican but did not connect well, and was caught by Shamar Joseph at mid-off. Bangladesh lost their second wicket for 68.

Earlier, the decision to bat first by Najmul Hossain Shanto had looked mistaken at the start. Openers Tamim and Sadman struggled against West Indies pacers Joseph and Jayden Seales.

Bangladesh managed only 19 runs in the first 10 overs and lost Tamim in that period. The opener, on 7, was caught by Justin Greaves off Seales.

In the next 10 overs Mominul added 46 runs with Sadman, and both batted fluently. After 20 overs Bangladesh were 65 for 1.

The report described this Test series against the West Indies as important for Bangladesh, saying there is no alternative to winning it to stay in the race for the World Test Championship final.

Mushfiqur Rahim is not in the eleven for this Test after being injured during practice in Mirpur. That injury from the previous day ruled the experienced batter out.

Bangladesh are playing their last Test series of the year on home soil. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss in the first match of the two-Test series and chose to bat first.
