Jamaat Supporters Block Road Demanding Recount at Thakurgaon-1 By-Election Centre
Supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate blocked a road in front of a polling centre demanding a recount in the Thakurgaon-1 by-election. The incident took place at around 7pm on Thursday, October 29.
The centre is Madhupur Kakuli Government Primary School in the newly formed Ruhia upazila. Local journalist Alamgir Hossain said the result list was published after counting ended at the centre.
Alamgir Hossain added that when polling officials were leaving the centre with election materials under law-enforcement escort, Jamaat activists and supporters stopped their vehicle and blocked the road demanding a recount.
At that centre, BNP candidate Mirza Faysal Amin received 2,130 votes, while Jamaat candidate Delawar Hossain received 414 votes. The centre has a total of 3,875 voters.
Additional Superintendent of Police Khodadad Hossain said there had been some disorder over the counting at the centre and that additional police were sent to bring the situation under control.
