Miscreants have been accused of stabbing a young man and throwing him from the roof of a moving train at Sreepur railway station in Gazipur. The incident took place on Thursday night after the Dhaka-bound intercity Tista Express train reached Sreepur station.

The injured youth is Md Anwarul Islam, 35, son of Md Riton Mia of Dattapara village in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh.

Seriously injured, Anwarul was first taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex. He was later sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for better treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.

Mahia, who rescued the injured youth and took him to hospital, said she and several friends were walking home along the side of the railway line when they heard a young man shouting, 'Save me, save me.'

Mahia said they then rushed to the spot and found the youth bleeding heavily from his abdomen and other parts of his body. The friends together rescued him and took him to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.

Dr Anik, a doctor in the emergency department of Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, said the injured youth was given primary treatment and then sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for better treatment, after his condition deteriorated.

Repeated attempts were made to contact Sreepur railway station master Shamima Akter by mobile phone about the incident, but she did not answer, the report said.

Sreepur police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Shahinur Alam said police had been sent to the hospital after receiving the news.
