The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has taken Shahriar Reza Deep, a friend of former Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri, into custody in connection with Tahsif’s death.

A source confirmed the information on Thursday night (29 October), though no comment was available from any responsible official. According to the source, Deep was taken into custody from a house on Babar Road in Mohammadpur. He is a resident of that area.

Police say that on 27 October Tahsif came down from his home in Sector 18 of Uttara in response to a call from his junior friend Deep. CCTV footage later showed the two of them leaving together on a motorcycle.

Deep had earlier said that Tahsif’s motorcycle developed a problem that night, so they first went to a workshop. They then had dinner together before parting. According to Deep, they ate at a restaurant in Uttara at around 9 pm. Between 11:30 pm and midnight they reached the House Building area of Uttara. There, Deep turned right towards his own home, while Tahsif went left, saying he had another errand.

At 1:35 am that night, Tahsif sent his mother a message reading “Ammu, I am coming.” His mobile phone was found switched off after that.

The next afternoon, 28 October, police recovered Tahsif’s floating body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan. Deep was present at the morgue during the autopsy of Tahsif’s body.

Deep was the last person seen with Tahsif on the night he went missing. The PBI is understood to have taken him into custody to verify his account and unravel the mystery of the death.

Tahsif’s father, K M Enayetul Karim, claims this was not an ordinary death or a suicide, but a planned murder.

Meanwhile, there has been widespread discussion on social media alleging Tahsif’s involvement in spreading the video of Sheikh Hasina boarding a helicopter as she left the country on 5 August 2024.
