Md Shahed Talukdar, president of the Chhatra Dal unit at Dr Imdadul Haque Memorial Degree College in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj, has been removed from his organisational post over allegations of stealing windows, grills, fans and construction materials from the college's abandoned building.

The information was given in a press release signed on Friday night (30 October) by Gopalganj district Chhatra Dal convener Saiful Islam and member secretary Sajidur Rahman. The release said Shahed Talukdar was removed on grounds of breaching organisational discipline.

Confirming the matter, district convener Saiful Islam said Chhatra Dal does not support any wrongdoing. There were allegations against Shahed including theft and several other matters, so he was removed, he said.

Earlier, on 27 October, allegations arose against Shahed Talukdar and his associates of forcibly taking away windows, veranda grills and three fans from the college's abandoned building.

The next day, college principal Habibur Rahman filed a written complaint at Tungipara police station against Shahed and four unnamed persons.

On the night of 29 October, police detained Shahed from Banshbaria Bazar in Dumuria union of the upazila. He was later released after giving a bond at the police station following a settlement between the complainant and the accused.

The day after his release, on the night of 30 October, the district Chhatra Dal announced his removal from the organisational post through the press release.
