Yaba-making setup found in Tongi house; arrested man claims he planned it from YouTube

Police have uncovered a yaba-making setup during a raid on a residential house in Tongi, Gazipur. A young man named Nazmul Islam Bappi, 32, was arrested in the incident, and various equipment and chemical ingredients used to make yaba were seized from the house.

Tongi East police arrested Nazmul during the raid on the house in the Pagar Alek Tek area of Tongi at around 1am on Friday night (30 October).

Police said the house had been under surveillance for several days based on a tip-off. Officers then raided the house on Friday night, found the yaba-making setup inside and seized the equipment and chemical ingredients from there.

After his arrest, Nazmul claimed that he planned to make yaba after being left destitute by heartbreak in a romantic relationship. He said he gathered information from the internet, Facebook and YouTube and then set up the yaba-making operation himself.

Local residents said Nazmul is the eldest son of Taizul Islam, a resident of the area. They said he became addicted to drugs after returning home from abroad a few years ago.

Md Ershadul Rahman, assistant police commissioner of the Tongi zone, said the raid was carried out based on a tip-off. A large quantity of yaba-making equipment and chemical ingredients was stored in the house, and those were seized in the raid.

The process of taking legal action against the arrested Nazmul is under way, Assistant Commissioner Md Ershadul Rahman said.
