The National Citizen Party (NCP) will hold a mass protest at Shahbagh in the capital on Friday over four demands. Organised by the Dhaka metropolitan north and south chapters, the programme is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm in front of the National Museum.

NCP convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam will attend as chief guest. Party member secretary Akhtar Hossain will speak as the main speaker. Members of the party's political council and other top central leaders will also speak.

The NCP's four demands include the resignation of the home minister and the energy minister on grounds of failure. The second demand calls for dissolving the one-party constitution amendment committee and forming a constitution reform council on the basis of the referendum verdict.

The party has also demanded the repeal of all laws against human rights and freedom of expression, and that the proposed amendment to the Cyber Protection Act not be passed. The fourth demand is for the July genocide trial to be completed and the verdict executed immediately.

The party says the mass protest has been organised to build public opinion for these demands and to press the government to meet them.

Earlier, at around 10:30 pm on Thursday, NCP member secretary and MP Akhtar Hossain inspected preparations at the rally venue in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh. He was accompanied by NCP joint member secretary Nizam Uddin, Dhaka divisional organising secretary Saifullah Haydar and other central leaders.

After inspecting the venue, they called on people from all walks of life to join the mass protest.
