Chased by Unknown Men, Tahsif Jumped into the Turag River to Save His Life, Friend Dip Tells PBI

New information has emerged in the mysterious death of former Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri. His friend Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, who is in the custody of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), has told interrogators that on the night of the incident Tahsif jumped into the Turag River at Tongi to save his life after some people chased them.
According to the information given by Dip, while the two were talking in Uttara that night, some individuals chased them. Fleeing that pursuit, Tahsif jumped into the Turag River at Tongi to save his life, while Dip himself escaped from the spot.
Additional Inspector General of Police Mostafa Kamal gave this information to the media at the PBI headquarters on Friday afternoon, October 30. He said: 'We have obtained quite a lot of information from the preliminary interrogation of Dip in custody. These are being verified. Details will be shared later.'
Police said the PBI recovered Tahsif's motorcycle from the Mazar Basti area, only 50 yards from the spot where the body was recovered. The motorcycle had been lying abandoned there for two days.
The PBI and the river police are examining Dip's claim of 'jumping into the river after being chased'. Work is under way to collect CCTV footage from the surrounding area and match it against other evidence to establish whether Dip's account is fully credible.
Meanwhile, the victim's family alleges that Tahsif was murdered in a planned way. According to the family, Tahsif knew how to swim and could not have committed suicide under any circumstances. They are pressing a strong demand that the matter be given importance at the highest levels of the government and investigating agencies, and that those involved in the incident be brought under the law through an impartial investigation.
On October 27, Tahsif left his home in Uttara's Sector 18 in response to his friend Dip's call. He never returned home. The next afternoon, October 28, the river police recovered his body from the Turag River in the Rajabari Ghat area of Tongi. The incident created a sensation, prompting the law-enforcement agencies to swing into action.
The PBI says details will be announced later, once the information obtained from Dip's interrogation has been verified.
