Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan has said there is no alternative to sports in preventing drug addiction. He said the government is therefore including sports in students' curriculum.
He made the remarks on Friday (30 October) as chief guest at the final of the 'Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan Football Tournament-2026', organised by Kachua upazila and municipal BNP, at Kachua Government Pilot High School ground in Chandpur.
The education minister said a football competition at government primary school level has already been completed. Now the Prime Minister's Gold Cup will be started.
He said practising sports can keep this generation away from drug addiction. Alongside that, there is also an opportunity to establish oneself as a professional in the sports field.
The minister also said new textbooks are being handed to students within this year. Subject-based books such as 'Learning with Happiness', 'Amar Karigori Shikkha' (My Technical Education), 'Bangladesher Sangskriti' (Culture of Bangladesh) and 'Kheladhula' (Sports) are being given to students.
He said students will also be encouraged to learn swimming in future through organising swimming competitions.
