In Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh, a union-level Jubo Dal leader has been accused of attempting to rape a woman after promising to get her jailed husband released. A video recorded by the victim has spread on Facebook.

The accused leader is Hazrat Ali Mondol, 38, who was the organisational secretary of the union Jubo Dal.

On Thursday night, October 29, the 45-year-old victim filed a case at Fulbaria Police Station naming Hazrat Ali as the accused. The station's officer-in-charge, Mohammad Rashedul Hasan, confirmed the matter.

OC Mohammad Rashedul Hasan said the video clearly shows an attempt to rape the woman. The accused is absconding and efforts are under way to arrest him, he said.

Police said the woman's husband was arrested on September 14 in a case over a fight and sent to jail. Hazrat Ali then began visiting the woman's home with assurances that he would get her husband released.

The victim has demanded a proper investigation and trial of Hazrat Ali. She has also alleged that she is being threatened.

When Hazrat Ali was contacted on his mobile phone for comment on the allegations, the phone was found switched off.

Fulbaria upazila Jubo Dal president Kamruzzaman Mir Azad said he had seen the video circulating on Facebook. He said that after discussions with district and central leaders, Hazrat Ali has been expelled from the party.
