Not a single candidate passed from 15 institutions under the Cumilla Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. Every candidate from those institutions failed.

The board's Controller of Examinations, Professor Dr Md Shafiqul Islam, announced the information at the result publication ceremony held in the Cumilla Education Board auditorium at 11am on Saturday (31 October), where he also presented the board's overall picture.

According to the controller, the Cumilla board's pass rate in this year's HSC examinations is 48.04 percent. A total of 92,162 students sat the examinations under this board, of whom 44,272 passed. Some 1,313 obtained GPA-5.

The controller said the overall result was affected because the number of students failing in English and Higher Mathematics was high.

In contrast, four institutions under the board recorded a 100 percent pass rate, it was announced at the ceremony.

The institutions where everyone failed include Chandpur Poura Shaheed Javed High School and College in Kachua upazila of Chandpur, Suruj Memorial High School and College in Lalmai upazila of Cumilla, and Cambridge City College in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.

Also on the list are Jindpur Union School and College and Bagoair Girls High School and College in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, Torabganj High School and College in Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur, Dr M Shamsul Haque Model College in Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur, and Begum Shamsun Nahar Girls School and College in Feni Sadar upazila.

The remaining institutions are Bir Muktijoddha Dr Momtaz Uddin Alokito College and Professor Sekandar Ali Bhuiyan Girls High School in Lakshmipur Sadar, Upper Model College in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, Lakshmipur Police Lines School and College in Lakshmipur Sadar, Fazumiar Hat High School and College in Kamalnagar, Birganj School and College in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria, and Beacon Model College in Feni Sadar.

The education board says it will look into the causes of these institutions' collapse and take fresh initiatives to improve education quality. Board Secretary Professor Jahangir Alam said there are plans to hold seminars, symposiums and guardian assemblies with the teachers and others concerned at these institutions.

The board secretary added that an investigation committee will be formed to examine why no student from these institutions could pass. Necessary next steps will be taken on the basis of the committee's recommendations.

The controller of examinations said seminars have been held with those concerned at the institutions whose results were poor, and he expressed hope that results will improve in the future.
