A student named Hridoy Sardar (19) has died in Tala upazila of Satkhira after failing his HSC examinations. Police said the death is believed to be a suicide.

The incident took place at his home in Dakshin Sarsa village of Dhandia union in the upazila at around 12 noon on Saturday.

Hridoy was the son of Raichuddin Sardar of Dakshin Sarsa village. He was a student of Patkelghata Harun-or-Rashid Degree College.

Local sources said Hridoy had been suffering from depression since learning that he had failed the HSC examinations. On Saturday noon, out of his family members' sight, he hanged himself inside the house, according to the sources. Family members later learned of the incident and informed the police.

A note was found beside the body. The note mentioned his despair over the exam result and asked his parents for forgiveness. He had also written about his own suffering in it.

Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, confirmed the incident. He said police went to the spot after receiving the news and recovered the body.

Tofazzal Hossain added that, based on the preliminary investigation and a review of the recovered note, the incident is believed to be a suicide.
