Bangladesh must move from using technology to inventing it, education minister says at science carnival

Bangladesh must reach the stage of inventing and creating technology, not merely using it, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said. Developed countries, he noted, do not only use technology — they invent and build it themselves.
He made the remarks on Saturday (31 October) as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 'BNMPC National Science Carnival-2026' on the premises of Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College in the capital. To reach that stage, he said, modern science and technology must be integrated into education so that students become science-minded.
The education minister said the current prime minister has given the highest allocation to the education sector. New textbooks under a revised curriculum will be introduced from 2028. He also said new books titled 'Learning with Happiness', 'Amar Karigari Shikkha' and 'Kheladhula o Bangladesher Sanskriti' are being given to students in the 2027 academic year.
He said there are plans to launch 'One Teacher, One Tab' and multimedia classrooms. Alongside that, a digital system is being introduced to properly monitor teachers' classroom activities.
Praising students' science-based projects, the minister said he was pleased to see students thinking about important issues such as health protection and bringing rivers back to life. He said such projects can be implemented if industry-academia links, like those in the developed world, are built between industrial firms and educational institutions.
Addressing students who did not get their expected results in the HSC and equivalent examinations, the education minister said there are opportunities ahead to do better. Failing an examination does not mean falling out of life; rather, students should try to achieve good results in future with renewed effort, he said.
Earlier, the education minister visited projects displayed at around 12 stalls of different institutions at the fair. He later handed prizes to the winners of the competition.
BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, the college's principal Lieutenant Colonel Md Tajul Islam, and teachers and students were present at the event.
