Additional DIG of police Abdullah Al Zahir, the owner of the house, has been suspended over a raid on a house in the Bhatara police station area of the capital in which drugs were recovered and 85 people were detained.

He was suspended on Saturday (31 October) through a notification issued by the home ministry.

The notification stated that news of such activities at the home of a high-ranking police officer being published in the media has created a negative perception of the police in the public mind and has severely damaged the image of the police. His conduct was considered discourteous and contrary to departmental rules and discipline.

On the night of 19 October, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) raided Abdullah Al Zahir's residence in the Police Housing residential area under Bhatara police station in the capital. Illegal drug trading, consumption and immoral activities were reportedly going on all night at the house under the cover of a DJ party.

During the raid, a large quantity of cannabis, yaba, alcohol and drug-taking equipment was recovered from the house. A total of 84 people, including 26 women, were detained from the scene.

Immediately after that, Abdullah Al Zahir was withdrawn from the Maintenance and Repair branch of police headquarters and attached to police headquarters.

Later he was suspended under the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, considered effective from 25 October.
