Rickshaw puller critically injured in Paltan by car of former CID chief, driven by his son
A rickshaw puller was critically injured after being hit by the private car of former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief and former additional inspector general of police Sibgat Ullah on Calvert Road in the capital's Paltan area. The accident took place on Saturday night (31 October), and the car was being driven at the time by the former CID chief's son.
Eyewitnesses and police said a speeding private car ran over the rickshaw puller in the Calvert Road area. It was later confirmed that the car was the personal vehicle of former CID chief Sibgat Ullah and that his son was at the wheel at the time.
According to police, the car, bearing the number Dhaka Metro-Gha-19-7077, hit the rickshaw from the side on a branch road about 100 metres from Paltan Tower.
Immediately after the accident, the injured rickshaw puller was rescued in a critical condition and taken to hospital. Police said he was taken to the National Institute of Traumatology, known as Pangu Hospital, in Agargaon, and that his condition is critical.
Paltan police station officer-in-charge (OC) Ariful Alam said police rushed to the spot on receiving the news, but found only the car and the broken rickshaw there — neither the rickshaw puller nor the car's driver was present. The car and the broken rickshaw were later brought to the police station.
OC Ariful Alam added that they have learnt the rickshaw puller was sent to Pangu Hospital and are making inquiries, and that legal steps are being taken over the incident.
