Mominul Haque will not play the second Test against the West Indies because of the concussion-substitute rule. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has confirmed the matter.

Once a concussion substitute is taken after a head injury, the player concerned cannot take the field for the next seven days. It is because of this rule that Bangladesh will not get Mominul in the second Test.

Mominul was struck on the head while trying to take a catch on the morning of the third day of the match. Jaker Ali then came on as his concussion substitute.

Mominul had agreed to the concussion substitution knowing the risk that he might miss the second Test. The Bangladesh team medical department is looking after the whole matter, and the next steps will be taken according to their decision.

After the match Shanto said, 'I don't think Mominul bhai will be able to play the second Test, it is difficult. As far as I know, under the rules he cannot. But he knew this too, and at that time the medical department took the decision after talking to him. So this is entirely a medical matter.'

On the other hand, the captain expressed hope of getting Mushfiqur Rahim, who missed the first Test with a finger injury, back for the next match. Shanto said, 'Mushfiq bhai will be available.'
