Students Found on Streets After Evening Will Be Arrested, DIG Warns in Cox's Bazar
Chattogram Range DIG Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury has warned that school and college students found roaming the streets after evening will be arrested. Announcing a tough stance to eliminate juvenile gangs, he said the police's preventive activities to suppress this crime will continue.
He made the remarks as chief guest on Saturday evening (October 31) at a gathering on preventing violence against women and children and suppressing social crime, held at the Shahid Subhash Hall of the Public Library in Cox's Bazar town. Cox's Bazar district police organised the gathering.
Addressing parents and teachers, the DIG said parents and teachers do not have proper control over their children. At an age when they should be busy with books, they are seen roaming the streets in the afternoon. Incidents such as making gestures and whistling are also happening. He commented that juvenile gangs are forming because of a lack of family discipline and supervision.
The DIG said: 'We have decided we will eliminate juvenile gangs from this country. There will be nothing called a juvenile gang. Our preventive measures will continue to eliminate it completely.'
The gathering was chaired by Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman. Municipal BNP president Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, Sadar Upazila BNP president and freedom fighter Abdul Mabud, Cox's Bazar Press Club president Mahbubur Rahman, and district Sramik Dal president Rafiqul Islam also spoke.
The speakers said various types of crime are being committed in Cox's Bazar town. The district police have recently taken effective steps to suppress crime. However, alongside the police, political and social organisations and the general public must work together to control crime.
Leaders of various political, social and professional organisations were present at the gathering.
