Child raped and murder attempted in Tangail: state minister visits hospital late at night, promises maximum punishment

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Member of Parliament for Tangail-5 (Sadar) Sultan Salahuddin Tuku went to the hospital late at night to see a six-and-a-half-year-old child who is under treatment after an incident of rape and attempted murder in Tangail.
At around 12 midnight on Saturday (31 October) night, he went directly from Dhaka to Tangail Medical College Hospital and inquired about the child's treatment.
Later, speaking to journalists, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said, ‘This is an extremely heartbreaking incident. Everyone is devastated after seeing it. Talks have already been held at all levels of the administration to ensure the maximum punishment for whoever committed this most heinous act. We will take the highest steps in this regard, so that no one dares to commit such an incident in the future.’
The state minister further said, ‘As far as I have heard, the person who committed this incident is a drug addict. We have already taken steps on how Tangail can be made drug-free. Various initiatives have also been taken by the administration. We are trying to keep the city safe and reduce crime and drugs. There is no lack of sincerity on our part in this regard.’
On Friday (30 October) afternoon, an allegation arose that the child was subjected to an attempted rape at a secluded place on the fourth floor of a building in the central Kalibari area of Tangail town. The family alleges that when the child screamed at the time, the accused Biplob (22) struck her face and nose with a brick. The child was seriously injured.
Later, a rickshaw-puller admitted the child to Tangail Medical College Hospital. A case was filed on Saturday night over the incident on allegations of attempted rape, attempted murder and grievous injury.
