Not One Student Passed from Five Lakshmipur Institutions; All Three Candidates Fail at One College

Not a single student passed the HSC and equivalent examinations this year from five educational institutions in Lakshmipur. The institutions are Fazumiar Hat High School and College, Police Lines School and College, Bir Muktijoddha Dr. Momtaz Uddin Alokito College, Torabganj High School and College, and Cambridge City College.
The most talked-about of them is Bir Muktijoddha Dr. Momtaz Uddin Alokito College. Only three students from the college sat the examination, and all of them failed. There is also confusion over the number of teachers at the college — one teacher says there are five, while another claims seven. In other words, even with seven teachers, not one of the three students could be brought to a pass.
The college is located in the Farashganj area of Kushakhali union in Chandraganj upazila of Lakshmipur. As it is a new institution, teaching activities have not yet begun in full, and the number of students is very small. This was the first time the college took part in the HSC examination. There were only three candidates, all of them female.
The college's founder-director is Engineer Arif Chowdhury Shuvo. He reportedly runs the college while working at the Department of Social Services in Dhaka. Repeated phone calls were made from the college grounds to get his comment on the result, but he could not be reached.
College teachers Noman and Mahinur said that because the institution is new, only three students sat the exam this time and their interest in studies was low. In their words, effort from the government or teachers alone is not enough — students must also be interested in studying. The teachers claimed the students spent more time on TikTok and mobile phones than on their studies, which is why the result was poor. They are, however, hopeful of better results in the future.
The two teachers' statements also conflicted on the number of teachers. Teacher Noman claimed the college has five teachers, while another teacher, Shahinur, standing beside him, put the number at seven.
Meanwhile, a young man from the same village, Ashraful Shahadat, made a sarcastic post about the college on Facebook. His post mentioned 12 teachers and staff, including three teachers from the same family, and highlighted that not one of the three students could be passed.
Additional District Magistrate and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Mezba Ul Alam Bhuiya said he has been informed about the Kushakhali college and that there is scope to learn more details. He said that although the college is new, the matter will be looked into.
Under education board rules, institutions from which no student passed will be sent letters. Necessary action will then be taken according to the rules.
