No Passes at Five Bogura Institutions: Kahalu College's Lone HSC Candidate Also Fails, as Teachers Pay Students' Fees From Their Own Pockets

In this year's HSC and equivalent examination results, not a single candidate passed from five educational institutions in Bogura district. Among them, Allamer Takia High School and College in Kahalu upazila sent just one candidate to the examination — and that lone humanities student also failed.
The institution has seen this kind of result collapse for the past two years. Former principal Mohammad Abdul Hannan Mondal said he retired on 11 August 2024; in his time the institution had more students and results were good, with students taking board examinations and doing well.
According to the former principal, around five students from the institution sat the examination last year as well, but none of them passed. This year too, he understands, one student from the humanities department took part.
The current principal, T M Ferdous Alam Palash, says five students filled in forms for this year's HSC examination, but only one of them actually sat it; the other four did not take part at all. The one who sat every subject still could not pass.
The current principal said students no longer want to enrol at the institution. After passing the SSC, many enter working life, and girls are married off. Students from poor families are persuaded to enrol, and in many cases the teachers arrange their admission, form fill-up and books with their own money — initiatives they take mainly to keep the institution alive.
T M Ferdous Alam Palash added that Bogura's students are now keen to study at comparatively better institutions, making it hard for this college to find students. Teachers who have served there for 10 to 12 years have been trying to keep the institution running by personally collecting students.
He said irregular student attendance is also disrupting regular teaching: students attend classes for a few days and then stop coming, and at some point teacher attendance also drops. He then tries to run classes by calling the students and teachers back in.
The institution has approval for a commerce branch alongside the general branch. The humanities department has four to five teachers, and the whole institution, including the college branch, has 12 teachers and staff in total.
