Prime Minister Backs Babupur Villagers Who Bought Their Own Field: Government to Buy Land for Expansion, Tk 4.41 Crore Budget Proposed

After the residents of Babupur village in Deuli union of Delduar upazila, Tangail, bought land for a playground with their own subscriptions, the prime minister himself has now stood beside them. The prime minister has directed the state minister for sports to buy land for the people of Babupur village on humanitarian grounds.
With no playground for children and teenagers in Babupur village, everyone from children to young people in the village was being deprived of sports. Later, rich and poor in the village together raised subscriptions and bought land for a playground with that money, fulfilling a long-held dream of the villagers.
That news reached the prime minister himself. The government has decided to buy land to further expand the playground built through the Babupur residents' initiative. Standing beside the villagers, the additional land next to the field will be bought by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said the initiative has been taken under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The state minister announced the government's decision at a press conference held at the National Sports Council on Sunday (November 1). He said video footage of the Babupur residents' playground initiative came to the prime minister's attention yesterday. Immediately after seeing it, the prime minister inquired about the matter and directed that necessary measures be taken.
The state minister said that after receiving the prime minister's direction, the acting secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports was asked to contact the Tangail deputy commissioner (DC) and the Delduar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO). The government decided to buy the additional land to take the villagers' initiative further and to build a complete and modern playground there.
Around three and a half thousand people live in Babupur village. For a long time there was no permanent field there for children and teenagers to play sports. To remove this crisis, the village's young people and entrepreneurs came forward. Through their initiative and the spontaneous financial support of ordinary people, 60 decimals of land were bought. The playground on that land was also formally inaugurated recently.
After the Babupur residents' exceptional initiative was published in the media, it came to the attention of the government's policymakers. At the press conference, the state minister said an overall budget of around Tk 4 crore 41 lakh has been proposed for the field's expansion and development. There is a plan to start work quickly after feasibility verification and the necessary processes are completed.
Aminul Haque said the prime minister's inspiration and positive outlook would encourage similar initiatives in other villages of the country. He also expressed hope that, with the participation of local people, a healthy environment for sports would develop in every village like Babupur.
