Bangladesh target another Youth Asia Cup title, with main focus on the 2028 World Cup

Bangladesh are two-time champions of the Youth Asia Cup. To keep that run of success going, the Bangladesh Under-19 team are heading into the Asia Cup cricket tournament this time too with the aim of winning the title.

This year's squad is accompanied by an experienced coaching panel. Supporters' expectations are therefore high as well.

Fahim Sinha, chairman of the BCB's Game Development Committee, also hopes the young Tigers will win the Asia Cup title once again.

For Fahim, however, alongside the Asia Cup there is an even bigger target: the World Cup. The BCB plans to keep this squad together and prepare it all the way to the 2028 Youth World Cup.

Fahim said, 'Of course, the expectation will be to win the Asia Cup. The World Cup is our ultimate goal. This batch will stay together until the World Cup. It is a long journey. The World Cup is at the start of 2028. Of course, winning the World Cup is our goal.'

This time the youth team's coaching panel is made up entirely of local coaches. But Fahim does not think whether the coaches are local or foreign is the big issue. What matters to him is the players' development and following the right process.

On this he said, 'Whether the coaching staff is local or foreign, the expectation from everyone is that the development process stays right. It is not the case that we have to win every match, or that we must win the Asia Cup.'

He added, 'We will give our best effort to win. The target will be to come back with the Asia Cup. But the full focus will be on whether the players are improving and whether our process is right. What result we get from here, and how many good players we find for the future, also matters.'
