The DIU Economics Forum has been formally launched at Dhaka International University (DIU) to advance knowledge practice, research, leadership development and co-curricular activities among students of the Department of Economics.

The forum was inaugurated on Sunday (1 November) at a ceremony held at the auditorium of the university's Student-Teacher Centre (STC).

The newly formed forum will work to increase the academic skills of economics students and develop their research-oriented thinking and leadership qualities. One of its main goals is to connect students' theoretical knowledge with real experience through seminars, workshops, research presentations, debates and various academic activities.

Speaking at the event, the department's chairman and associate professor Shamim Akhtar said, “The DIU Economics Forum will play an important role in developing students' economic thinking, analytical skills, research-mindedness, creativity and leadership qualities.”

Shamim Akhtar added, “Our expectation is that this forum will grow not merely as a student organisation, but as an effective platform for knowledge, innovation, research and professional excellence.”

The chief guest at the event was Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary, chairman of the university's Board of Trustees. The special guest was Professor Dr Md Nazmus Sadekin, chairman of the Department of Economics at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University.

Also present were Professor Mohammad Shah Alam Chowdhury of the English department, DIU's director of student welfare and adviser, and Mili Rahman, associate professor and joint director of the Centre for Research Excellence and Development (CRED). Other teachers and students of the university also took part.

Those involved hope the new forum will further develop research interest, academic excellence, mutual cooperation and leadership qualities among the economics students.
