Bangladesh's 'Roid' selected for Emerging Filmmakers section at India's IFFI in Goa
The Bangladeshi film 'Roid' has been officially selected for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), India's oldest and largest film festival. Directed by Mejbaur Rahman Suman, the film has been finalised for screening in the festival's prestigious 'Emerging Filmmakers' section.
The festival is set to open in Goa, India, on 20 November. The festival authority published the full list of films nominated in the section on Sunday (1 November), and 'Roid' is on that list.
Alongside 'Roid', films from eight other countries are in the same section this year. They include Valentina Morel's 'Forever Your Maternal Animal', Arvin Belarmino's 'Ria', Konstantina Kotzamani's 'Titanic Ocean' and Jelena Maksimovic's 'Until the Day Ends'.
The remaining films on the list are Reid Van Dyke's 'Atonement', Rafiki Farial's 'Congo Boy', P R Manecillo Patindol's 'I Grew an Inch When My Father Died' and Janis Lenz's 'Oasis'.
In a message, the festival authority said the special section was created to honour promising young filmmakers who, crossing geographical boundaries with independent and strong perspectives, are adding new dimensions to the emotional depth and aesthetic diversity of world cinema.
This is not 'Roid's first success at an international festival. In the first week of October, the film took part in the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada and won three awards at once — best actress, best cinematography and best music.
The film's central roles are played by Nazifa Tusshi, Mostafizur Nur Imran, Gazi Rakayet and Ahsabul Yamin Riyad, among others.
Before being praised at international festivals, the film also succeeded in cinemas at home. Released across the country last Eid-ul-Adha, it won praise from general audiences and also did well at the box office, according to the report.
